Our Pathology Department plays a critical role in patient care through the accurate diagnosis and monitoring of diseases. Our team of skilled pathologists and laboratory scientists utilize advanced diagnostic techniques to provide precise and timely results, supporting clinical decision-making and improving patient outcomes.
The Port Moresby General Hospital Pathology Laboratory is a 24-hour operated facility.
As this is a training hospital, our staff also comprises of training Residents, Registrars, and Pathologists from the National Department of Health. It not only serves the Patients at the Port Moresby General Hospital but also NCDPHA, Private Health Facilities in Port Moresby as well as other Hospitals in the Country.
The Pathology Laboratory assists the Doctors in making the correct diagnosis for their patient. It involves the examination of tissues, organs, stool, bodily fluids (blood, aspirates, sputum, CSF, pus, urine, and semen) and autopsies.

Adjoined to the laboratory is the Sir Brian Bell Collection Centre, where the public can donate blood for patients at PMGH and other private and public hospitals in Port Moresby. Staff also attend blood bank drives at NGOs and public institutions or places for blood donations.
