Port Moresby General Hospital Emergency Centre is a public service facility, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing urgent priority care in the case of accidents, illness and medical emergencies.
The Centre features state-of-the-art lifesaving equipment in resuscitation areas, cardiac cubicles, general examination cubicles, an orthopaedic procedure room, a paediatric assessment room and an ENT/eye room.
The Centre is equipped with dedicated areas to support urgent assessment, resuscitation, treatment and emergency procedures.

The new emergency department opened in December 2012 and provides dedicated capacity for emergency presentations.
The Emergency Centre has 31 beds.
Approximately 65,000 presentations each year.
Up to 60 patients registered per 8-hour shift.
The Emergency Centre's 31 beds are distributed across resuscitation, acute, short-stay and isolation areas.
The Emergency Centre's estimated case mix includes paediatrics, trauma, TB and malaria presentations.
The Emergency Centre is supported by emergency physicians, registrars and residents.
Registrar teaching is conducted every Tuesday and Friday from 9:00am to 10:00am.
